Mechanochemical synthesis and thermal stability of Ca-doped high-entropy La(Co,Cu,Fe,Mn,Ni)O3-δ perovskites

In this study, the feasibility of preparing novel Ca-doped high entropy La(Co,Cu,Fe,Mn,Ni)O3-delta perovskites by mechanochemical synthesis was explored. It was found that monophasic compounds can be obtained after 150 h of milling, characterized by the nano size of their crystals and a significant concentration of oxygen vacancies, likely due to the incorporation of bivalent cations…

Mechanistic aspects of the reduction of rutile titanium dioxide and its Re-oxidation. Development and destruction of crystallographic shear structures

A model is presented giving the mean dimensions of acicular octadecahedral microcrystallites of a rutile titanium dioxide powder. Reduction at 823 K, in conjunction with ESR, electrical conductivity and controlled re-oxidation has enabled the model to be applied to reduced microcrystallites. At 300 K they contain <0.1% of paramagnetic [Ti3+↑ VO: ↑Ti3+] reduced edge sites and >99.9% of reduced spin-paired [Ti3+↑↓ Ti3+ VO:] sites. These sites are situated…

On the adsorption properties and applications of mixed-linker MOFs based on HKUST-1

Different mixed-linker MOFs based on HKUST-1 have been successfully synthesized using BtTC (1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate) and BDC (1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) as modulator ligands. These MOFs maintain the HKUST-1 structure up to 25% and 50% of trimesic acid replacing with BtTC and BDC ligands, respectively. A low percentage of modulator ligand provokes an increasing of the MOF surface area keeping…

Mechanically induced combustion synthesis of niobium carbonitride nanoparticles

Niobium carbonitride [Nb(C,N)] nanoparticles were synthesized by a combustive mechanochemical reaction in the Mg/Nb2O5/C3H6N6 system. High-energy ball milling was used to promote a mechanically induced self-sustaining reaction (MSR). Combustion occurred after a very short milling period of 5 min. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and electron energy loss spectroscopy…

Chromium incorporation into TiO2 at high pressure

Chromium incorporation into TiO 2 up to 3 GPa at 1300 °C and 900 °C has been studied by XRD as well as TEM. A CaCl 2 type TiO 2 polymorph has been observed in the quenched samples from high pressure. Two different mechanisms of solubility occur in the recovered samples. Chromium replaces titanium on…

Room temperature mechanosynthesis of the La 1-xSr xMnO 3±δ (0≤x≤1) system and microstructural study

Monophase nanocrystalline powders belonging to the La1−xSrxMnO3±δ system (0≤x≤1) with a perovskite structure have been obtained by mechanochemistry synthesis using a planetary ball milling equipment from La2O3, SrO, and Mn2O3 mixtures. The solid state reaction was complete after one hour of milling treatment. For all the compositional range, the diffraction domain was very small and…

Structural and catalytic properties of lanthanide (La, Eu, Gd) doped ceria

Ce0.9M0.1O2-δ mixed oxides (M=La, Eu and Gd) were synthesized by coprecipitation. Independent of the dopant cation, the obtained solids maintain the F-type crystalline structure, characteristic of CeO2 (fluorite structure) without phase segregation. The ceria lattice expands depending on the ionic radii of the dopant cation, as indicated by X-ray diffraction studies. This effect also agrees…
