Monitoring the influence of steam on highly-active rhodium catalyst during the combined reforming of biogas by transient and steady-state operando spectroscopic studies

The impact derived from incorporating water into CH4/CO2 biogas stream for the generation of syngas was investigated over the Rh/MgAl2O4 catalyst using operando steady-state and transient DRIFT spectroscopy coupled with MS. The incorporation of steam resulted in improved CH4 conversion rates and attained syngas streams with higher H-2/CO ratios. It was demonstrated that in the presence of steam, the generation of CHxO species through the reaction of CO* with active *OH species is favored at the metal support surface. Besides, the enhanced resistance delivered by water molecules towards deactivating the coking phenomena was associated with easier…

Mechanistic insights into methanol carbonylation to methyl acetate over an efficient organic template-free Cu-exchanged mordenite

Currently, acetic acid is produced via the carbonylation reaction of methanol with the main route entailing the use of homogeneous noble metal-based catalysts, which has certain limitations, including the use of polluting alkyl halide promoters and difficulty in catalyst recovery. To overcome these challenges, the exploration of alternative methods utilizing heterogeneous catalysts, particularly zeolites with copper as…

Electrochemical activation of an oblique angle deposited Cu catalyst film for H-2 production

A novel Cu catalyst film was prepared by oblique angle physical vapour deposition (OAD) on a K-βAl2O3 solid electrolyte (alkaline ionic conductor) for catalytic/electrocatalytic purposes. This technique allowed us to obtain a highly porous and electrically conductive Cu catalyst electrode which was tested in the partial oxidation of methanol (POM) reaction for H2 production and its catalytic…

Improved O-2 evolution from a water splitting reaction over Er3+ and Y3+ co-doped tetragonal BiVO4

Erbium–yttrium co-doped BiVO4 with a tetragonal structure is synthesized by means of a surfactant free hydrothermal method. The studied photocatalyst shows good photoactivity under sun-like excitation for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and for O2 evolution. From structural and morphological characterization, it has been stated that the presence of lanthanides induces the stabilization of…
